All Money Mouse wants to do is play his arcade games. But his family and friends won't stop bothering him.

They keep losing their items and are too scared of the circular saws that patrol the mansion to find them themselves.

Find their items and return them outside your arcade room.

(Although your friends never take the items frm you. They must just need a little reasurance that they weren't lost forever).

When they see the items are safe they will be happy and you'll be able to play one of your arcade games.

Don't take too long though, they are annoyingly impatient and expect you to return with their item within 10 minutes!

(Good job you know the mansion like the back of your hand...)

Good luck! (You might need it!)

This game has been inspired by the game 'Byte Bitten' published by Firebird and written by Tony Barber. This was one of my most played games as a child (although I mostly played the 'Sea Kings' helicopter game part of it, which was a lot of fun. Plus you could crash the helicopter into the boats, which made 11year old me very happy to see the graphical glitches).

Controls:

"O" Left "P" Right
"Q" Up "A" Down "M" fire / select / launch ball.

Keys are redefinable and Sinclair and Kempston interfaces are supported for Joysticks.

Hope you enjoy this little game.

There are 16 objects to find in episode one and 49 rooms to find them in.
There are still 16 objects to find in episode two, and 30 rooms to find them in.

In episode one, the bonus games in the arcade are: BreakUP! and BaseInvaders.

BreakUp!

Base Invaders

In episode two, the bonus games in the arcade are: FroggyToad and Quackman.

Thank you to Jonathan Cauldwell for creating MPAGD, to Minilop Retro for the great tutorials that helped get me started. (Also to everyone on the AGD/MPAGD forums that supplied answers to questions I didn't realise I had; there is a lot of knowledge out there and a lot of clever people willing to share it). Also, I should thank Chris Cowley for Beepola, which I spent far too long meddling about with (when I should have been coding).

And finally, I should thank everyone who writes and plays these games which has meant there is still a scene and my childhood dream of writing games for the Spectrum has been able to become a reality. I just need t work on the second dream where I get paid to write games... but that's a dream for another night...

Tips.

  1. Make a map. It'll help. All the objects start in the same place (because randomizing the item locations just feels mean!) . Each episode has its own layout ... and the "free to play alpha versions" have their own layout too (Although the layout is the same in the early and final alphas)Episode One Map
Here's the Episode One "Blueprints" Map to get you started.
  2. You can only carry one item at a time. This means if you pick up an item while you're carrying something, the old item will be dropped at that location. Remember this because one of your friends could turn up and ask for it again!
  3. There are two types of baddies in the main game. The quick-spinning cyan saws are slightly more intelligent and can change direction whenever a turn is available. The slower spinning, white saws will move until they hit a wall (or another saw) and then change direction. They will start moving as soon as you enter a screen, which will randomly be either left or right. If a room looks scary, leave and come back. They might go in the other direction next time.

In the two alphas, the early alpha had them coloured red and magenta. The final alpha had them both cyan. They still behave the same, one intelligent, one not, irrespective of version.
  4. When you enter a room, the Baddies start positions are reset. This is especially useful when a saw is heading straight for you and there's an exit behind you.
  5.  If you just like the arcade games, you can just play the arcade games. Option 2 on the main menu now lets you cycle between the two arcade games and the main one. If you just want to hunt for items, you can do that too (and select "find next item" ... but you might not get the bonus lives if you do that...)

Good Luck!

Have Fun!

Money Mouse in Full Barn House (Episodes One and Two) are available now (January 31st 2024); I think they're ready.
